How to Choose the Right Chess Set
Before buying a chess set, consider a few important factors.
Who will be using it?
Beginners often benefit from classic, easily recognizable pieces. Experienced players may prefer weighted Staunton pieces and larger tournament boards.
Where will it be used?
For home games, a standard wooden chess set is a great choice. For travelling, a smaller folding or magnetic set is usually more convenient.
Is appearance or functionality more important?
Decorative chess sets can become beautiful additions to a living room or office, while tournament sets focus on practicality and playing comfort.
What size should you choose?
A chessboard measuring approximately 45–50 cm is a versatile option for home use. Larger boards can provide additional playing space, especially when paired with appropriately sized pieces.
Choosing the right combination ensures an enjoyable playing experience.
